A member asked:

If you do not have full cirrhosis of the liver, does the liver repair itself if it has been damaged? what are the symptoms once damage begins?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cirrhosis: The liver can repair itself to some extent but chronic inflammation of the liver (hepatitis) can eventually lead to cirrhosis. Most symptoms only occurr at late stage. One symptom that can occurr early is redness of the palms of the hands which can indicate chronic disease. Late signs are fluid in the abdomen, edema, bleeding and altered mental status to list a few.
