A member asked:

I have been crying in my sleep lately. what diagnoses could this symptom be attributed to and what can i do to help ease or stop it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Its a release!: Crying , in my opinion is a physiological reaction to an emotional state, such as the emotional part of pain, happiness, sadness, etc. Crying while asleep is most likely a reaction to an emotional state while you are asleep. Some of my patients reported sleep crying during periods of emotional turmoil. Most crying is a release, a solution, and it will stop.. If it persists, you might need help.
