See below: If you are talking about aspirating food or a foreign object, you would most likely know it as soon as it happened. Symptoms would include shortness of breath, coughing and choking. If you are talking about silent aspiration, then symptoms may not be obvious and you could develop pneumonia or have a chronic cough if you are aspirating stomach acid.
