I spend much time ruminating on death. i want to be ready for the unlikely life-threatening situation. is this healthy? most days fine, others nervous

No: Normal to think about from time to time, like you said to be prepared. But there are literally thousands of possible scenarios of "life threatening situations" and is abnormal to ruminate. Spend some time in meditation, then move on to more constructive areas and living a healthy life instead.

Not healthy: Ruminating can be a symptom of an anxiety disorder. I would encourage you to consult with your physician concerning this issue.
