Complex: Hiatal hernia is a spectrum of disease from mild with no symptoms, to a severe, life threatening condition. Large hernias are also called paraesophageal, and can be associated with progressive symptoms of difficulty swallowing, sensation of food sticking in the lower chest, vomiting, chest pain/pressure, anemia, and weight loss.
