MRI Scans: Mri scans are performed on isolated parts of the body for specific reasons. If a physician is concerned for brain, spine or joint infections, than a targed MRI is a great test. It would never be used to screen a whole body. It would take hours and be very expensive. As an example, a brain MRI takes about 45 minutes. A total spine MRI takes up to 2.5 hours.
