A member asked:

In the 24 hour period following a full term birth, what would it mean if the baby had "multiple variable decelerations" of the heart?

Can be normal.: This means that while your baby was on a monitor the heart rate was slowed below a baseline rate. These are temporary drops in heart rate. We worry about them because they can be signs of infection, breathing problems or heart problems. They can be common in premature infants but if your baby is full term without any fevers, breathing problems, or feeding problems they can be normal variability.
