Yes: Vertical nystagmus can be due to visual loss, toxic or metabolic problems, or central nervous system problems.

You are correct: Nystagmus can be due to a number of neurologic problems such as stroke, multiple sclerosis and brain tumors. Vertical nystagmus is more likely to be associated with a neurologic problem than horizontal nystagmus.
