Surgery on nerves: Dorsal rhizotomy is a procedure in which the posterior nerve bundles leaving the spinal cord are cleaved, cauterized, or ablated with radiofrequency to help block pain. Some are performed by neurosurgeons and others are less invasively performed by pain doctors.

Surgery for spastici: This is an operation for people with spasticity such as cerebral palsy. Sensory nerves are stimulated and the nerves abnormal nerves are cut to try to decrease the abnormally high tone in these patients. Other procedures such as placement of an intrathecal Baclofen pump are performed for this same purpose and have been used to treat spasticity from brain/spinal cord injuries and multiple sclerosis.
