White coat syndrome: White coat effects will often happen because you are nervous about having your blood pressure tested by a dentist or dental assistant. If you are very anxious your systolic blood pressure can rise by as much as 30mmhg. Rec.: check you blood pressure at home or nearest drug store before making any diagnosis about your blood pressure.

Yes, Anxiety: Anxiety can definitely raise your blood pressure. That's a common scenario. However, if it stays elevated for more than a couple of minutes, there may be something else going on. In that case, you should see your physician and get that checked. If you are anxious at the dentist, many of them can give you something to help you relax. Seeing a dentist should not be scary or uncomfortable nowadays.
