A member asked:

What can be done in advance of an mri to ensure the contrast does not cause an allergic reaction? is there any way to be extra cautious or do a test?

MRI = very safe: No need to do anything in advance. The incidence of true reaction to MRI contrast is on the order of 1 in 10, 000 or less. If your kidney function is decreased for any reason, the radiologist may choose not to give contrast to prevent a rare complication called nsf, but it has nothing to do with allergy.
