Peri or both: You can be perimenopausal at age 38 but you will not be considered to have premature menopause until you have not had a period for 1 year before age 40.

Depends: Premature menopause means you stopped having your period for over one year at an early age (around 40 or younger). Perimenopause is the time before menopause when women can experience menopausal symptoms, but still have periods (albeit irregular). This can last about 1-6 years for most women. So if you are still have a period you &having symptoms your are perimenopausal.
