Could the tongue have blood in it?

Yes: It's kept alive by a generous supply of blood vessels and you can see some of them especially on its undersurface.

Tongue: Hello. Yes, your tongue has arterial (oxygen rich) and venous ( oxygen depleted) blood moving thru vessels. The tongue s a muscle that requires lots of blood flow. If you would bite your tongue too hard for example, sometimes a hematoma can occur where blood travels outside the normal vessels and creates a blood bolster spoke airing lesion. I hope this helps.
