See full answer: The most common type of intussusception occur near the junction of the small intestine and colon (eg ileocecal junction). After the diagnosis is confirmed, if the child does not have peritonitis, then the usual first line therapy is to attempt radiographic reduction. If this is not successful, then surgery is required.

Several: First diagnosis must be made and this is done with air contrast or hydrostatic enema. These tests can diagnose and treat the intussusception by reducing it with gentle pressure. If not reducible then surgery is needed.
