BPD is a brain-based: Mental illness or psychiatric disorder, not a personality disorder. Each child of a parent with bpd has a 20% empiric chance of developing it. In some families with a clear pattern of autosomal dominant inheritance, each child of an affected individual has a 50% chance. An MRI study in adults show reduced frontal-lobe volume; one in kids showed "multi-dimensional impairment", as in schizophrenia.
