We have a cure: "The plague" refers to the bubonic plague, caused by The bacteria, Yersinia pestis. Early diagnosis is key to effective therapy. This bacteria can be killed using an antibiotic. First line agent is streptomycin and gentamicin (both belong in the aminoglycoside group) with alternatives including doxycycline, ciprofloxacin and chloramphenicol (not used commonly in the US).
