Overall very safe: Rarely is there a lead or pacemaker/defibrillator with a higher than expected failure rate. Currently we are dealing with the st jude riata leads and the medtronic fidelis lead that have higher failure rates than expected - some estimates are above 15% over the lifetime of some of these leads. Neither are still being implanted.
