From hemorrhoids: No rectal bleeding is "normal". Bright red bleeding is the least dangerous. Hemorrhoids -swollen rectal veins- can become irritated. The blood is 'fresh' and bright red anal fissures -cuts- are painful and produce bright blood. Warm baths with epson salts, creams like a;d help. Darker blood may come from a tumor or polyp. Upper GI bleeding may have black stools. Do see a doctor peter wilk, md.
