Money politics: In order to help their supporters and money contributors, some members of congress passed laws preventing the FDA from regulating herbal supplements unless the herbs clearly hurt patients who take them. So the FDA can remove a harmful product from the market, but cannot regulate anything else. Herbal supplements cannot be trusted to contain the ingredients listed, and may be individually harmful.
