A member asked:

Can escherichia coli live in vagina and infect baby?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not likely.: While anything is possible in medicine, even this, it is unlikely. The vagina has an acidic environment the kills most bacteria so the uterus does not get infected. Having said this, urinary tract infections from e.Coli can result from sexual activity, and moreover, venereal diseases, like chlamydia certainly can get to the womb and cause pelvic iflammatory disease, and infect the baby.
