Chest pain in women: Chest pain in young women is generally not cardiac in origin, with some exceptions. Women who have had diabetes since childhood may have premature coronary artery disease. Women who have chest pain associated with shortness of breath and who are on hormone replacement therapy may have pulmonary embolism. Women who have sudden onset of chest pain around time of menses may have a dissection.
