A member asked:

If a doctor over looks herpes on a part of your skin how would could you tell if you have herpes?

Depends: It can often be a clinical diagnosis in combination with the history. If there is ever a question, sometimes the lesions can be scraped and sent for viral culture. We can also biopsy the skin lesion. Finally, we can check bloodwork to see if recent or previous exposure ti either one of the herpes viruses.
