A member asked:

My son is 16. his bp is really low sitting down then goes sky high when he stands up. his dr couldn't explain it. he has not been ok for months.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Seconadry HTn : Secondary causes such as pheochromocytoma, cushing , thyroid . Aortic coarctation etc should de sought. Pheochromocytoma can be accompanied with headaches, passing out and sweating . Any time HTN is encountered at under 35 or over 65 -70yr old as a new diagnosis secondary HTN should be ruled out especially if the BP is refractory i would like to see those BP values. Good luck.
