Assume a cold sore.: If what you "picked" was on you lip, play it safe and assume it is a herpes cold sore. While there are some over-the -counter medications that may give you relief, the real concern is that it you can "pass" this infectious issue to others. Avoid kissing and/or oral sexual activities until the area is completely healed.
