Dr. Marc Neff answered

Childhood obesity: A growing problem in our country is childhood obesity. The dietary education is slowly happening in schools, but there needs to be an emphasis on regular exercise as well. I would suggest finding an activity they think is fun...Dance, soccer, karate, and encouraging it. Also, make them turn off the electronics for an hour or so a day, and engage in activities. The video games and apps can wait.

Have the whole : family participate in regular exercise like walking, bike-riding or a sport. Limit screen time (videos, TV + computer) to 2 hours/day. Remove the TV & other electronics from his bedroom, if any are there. Park your car so you have a longer walk to go to stores & other places. Have healthy, sit-down family meals with pleasant conversation. Don't purchase or allow junk food or soda in your house.
