Trauma/muscle spasm: Lock jaw has several causes. The two most prevalent are related to the jaw joint or muscles that causes jaw function. Traumatic injury, such as whiplash, can cause physical damage to the jaw joint and limit its motion. Muscle trauma, such as constant clinching of teeth, can cause spasm of the muscles and over time can limit mouth opening. Have it evaluated if you have any limited movement.
