Chewing gum: If you are allergic or sensitive to any of the ingredients in gum, it could cause swelling of the tongue. Cinnamon is a common one for many people.

Of course: Most people accidentally bite their tongues while chewing. At this point your tongue will tend to swell slightly making it easier to bite it again ans swell some more.
