How is it that i weigh 145-147 and I do not look like that at all? Can it be my bones or my muscles? Why do I weigh more than what i look?

If very overweight: Only if doing whole body scan or lumbar spine exam. The table usually has limit 300-350 pounds. If doing evaluation of extremity can do separate study with body not on table, then probably no issue.

Yes and no: Yes it requires radiation. The bone mineral density test (which is not a "bone scan" which is something entirely different) requires x-radiation. But no, it is not harmful in and of itself. The radiation dose is around 1/10 the dose from a chest radiograph. That said, radiation doses are cumulative, so each DXA adds a little to your total dose accumulation and risk.

Depends on age/risks: Bone density scan is recommended for screening of osteoporosis. However, it is generally not recommended in a young woman (age 38) unless there are risk factors for accelerated osteoporosis such as chronic steroid use, primary hyperparathyroidism, concomitant diagnosis of rheumatological disorders and/or other risk factors. For men, hypogonadism is a risk factor. D/w your doctor.
