BCP's: At age 53, the main reason to consider birth control pills is that the pill works to shut off the ovaries' production of estrogen, so pre-menstrual syndrome is much reduced as is the amount of bleeding when the placebo pills are taken. Recent literature suggests that the very low dose bcp's are safe, and the quality of life without high estrogen from ovaries is better.
