A gastrointestinal disturbance specific to persons with asds ("autistic enterocolitis”) has not been established, nor is there solid evidence for abnormal gastrointestinal permeability in individuals with asds. A variety of GI disorders present as behavioral or sleep difficulties in people with asd.
