Depends: The extend of fusion, bone quality, fitness, other medical conditions will affect recovery. Many can get up and perform self care within a few days. The surgeon, nurse, therapists can size up your individual needs. Many can be independent, but some will need help from family or home health. Some will benefit from time on an inpatient rehabilitation unit for extra therapy and strengthening.
