A member asked:

Please tell me what will happen if you do not amputate a leg that has no blood flow below the knee?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pain, infection: Gangrene, which means a dead leg, ensues. This can be painful, requiring narcotics, which may or may not be adequate. The second and life-threatening complication is infection in the dead tissue. This can get into the blood stream, causing infection throughout the body (septicemia) leading to death.
