A member asked:

Please explain what does hiv 1/2 negative mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Good news: There are 2 main viruses that cause AIDS. HIV-1 and HIV-2. I guess scientists couldn't think of any better names! Mostly in the U.S. and the rest of the world, HIV-1 is the most common virus. In Western Africa they have some HIV-2 infections. Your test, which is negative! - tested you for both viruses, on the very rare chance you could have gotten HIV-2 infection. Make sure going forward 2B safe!
