Calcium: Calcium carbonate is well absorbed and very well tolerated. It is usually a preferable to take a low dose of vitamin d long with a calcium supplement. Standard acceptable dose is 1200 milligrams of calcium per day.

Calcium: You can take calcium carbonate or calcium citrate. Make sure and follow the directions on the bottle as to whether or not to take it with food. Natural calcium is even more important than supplements however.
