Why is exposure to gamma rays and x-rays dangerous to fetal health?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cell & DNA damage: Radiation damages the dna and rapidly dividing cells. In a fetus, especially during the organ development state, a large number of the cells are rapidly dividing and susceptible to permanent damage due to radiation. Such damage may cause birth defects, genetic defects and cancer later in life.
