Breast-fed babies: Can have a wide variation in frequency ; amount of stooling. Constipation is very rare, as their stools are softer than those of formula-fed babies. Babies < 2 mos. Normally push hard with voluntary muscle of the abdomen ; turn red in the face to expel gas or stool, because the smooth muscle of the intestine has yet to develop coordinated movements. If baby is otherwise healthy, don't fret.
