A member asked:

Daughter had taken spironolactone but stopped when she was 3 weeks pregnant..what are the chances of a birth defect and is there test for this defect?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No Data: This medication is considered a category "c"medication in early pregnancy. There is not enough data available to consider it dangerous or completely safe in early pregnancy. It moves to a category "d" or potentially dangerous if used for pregnancy induced hypertension late in pregnancy. (as are many of the hypertension drugs) since there is no recorded defects, there is no specific test for them.
