A 32-year-old female asked:

How soon can you get an accurate result on a pregnancy test?

Very soon: A home urine pregnancy test gives a reliable result by 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon, and thus lead to a repeat test. If a woman gets her normal regular period, then she is not pregnant, and a test is not needed.

How old do you have to be to get a pregnancy test?

Post-pubertal: For pregnancy, you have to have ovulated and had a menstrual cycle. While girls may start at age 8 or 9, most are between 12-14 years of age. Alternatively, hcg, the hormone tested, can be elevated in children with ovarian or testicular tumors, so it is not only used to test for pregnancy.

A 27-year-old female asked:

How soon should 1 take a pregnancy test?

Dr. Scott Gulinson

Prenancy testing: If you keep your menstrual diary and have regular cycles then your ovulation date should be 14 days prior to your menstruation onset. That can help you with timed intercourse to become pregnant. Conception happens around ovulation time. When you miss a menstrual cycle it'd be a good idea for the preg test to be done that week and again in 10d if negative. Hope this helps.
