? tenesmus: It important to know whether this is of a new onset or chronic. Any irritation of the colon can cause cramping that can appear wavelike. New onset could be an infection in the colon, a chronic pain could be multiple cause including irritable bowel or inflammatory bowel disease. A good rule of thumb is does the pain wake you up at night? If it does, this needs to be investigated.

Likely not: These could be gas related pains, or pain due to constipation (if you struggle with constipation). Most likely these are muscle spasms of the colon wall. If they persist you should seek medical evaluation.
