A member asked:

Painful palpitations (long history but never painful till recently). i exercise 3/wk. should i bother gp? no lasting chest pain only transient.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, bother them: Palpitations, as you know, are distressing but they're not painful. I would be suspicious that something else is going on. For instance, pericarditis could cause pain with forceful or irregular heart beat. Because of your age, an unusual presentation of angina also needs to be considered, even though your spells are brief.
