Stroke: Prognosis depends upon the extent of brain damage so impossible to tell. Hang in there. Brain is complicated but more plasticity at a young age. Prognosis has to do with both clinical course and findings on brain scans.

Who decides?: My advance directive would preclude my continuing to receive care under these circumstances as i understand them. If you find yourself charged with making health care decisions for this individual, absent an advance directive, then you must demand a truthful account from the attending physician. I'm sorry about the situation. Best wishes.

It Depends !: I need to see his head ct and know more about him. Generally speaking stroke in young adult , most likely is due to a precipitating cause such as hyper-coagulable state of blood or having clot in his blood...If his brain pressure stays normal after surgeries and wean off from the ventilator, he will recover with some deficit depend on the location of injury. It takes several days/week to recover..
