Depends: Except in special cases when a contact lenses is needed for visual reasons in the very young, the basic rule for time to wear contacts is maturity. The child must be old enough to totally take care of the lense, insertion, removal, cleaning, keeping to schedule without the need for parental involvement. Typically this is about age 12 for girls and 14 for boys.
