Glicerine suppositories work by drawing fluid into the colon to facilitate defecation. Aside from occasionally causing irritation of the anus, there should be no real side effects.

There are no serious side effects other than your bowel habits getting dependent on this treatment. You may wish to try fiber laxative like metamucil.
