Antiretrovirals: There are drugs called antiretrovirals that when taken in combinations (often three drugs at one time) can extend the lives of patients with HIV for many decades. These drugs can result in boosted immune function (preservation of high cd4+ cell counts) and can reduce measurable viral loads to undetectable levels. These drug combinations are, however, not a 'cure' for hiv.
