Canker Sores: Canker sores are usually of viral origin. In most cases, they take 4-5 days to heal and go away. The best inexpensive remedy is to rinse with warm salt water several times a day and to keep it and the surrounding area clean. Some over-the-counter topical gel anesthetics are available at pharmacies to relieve the discomfort and to reduce the length of time that the sore is active.
