Signs of infection: for a piercing would include redness, swelling, purulent drainage, odor & pain. Bleeding in & of it's self does not necessarily mean infection. Naval piercings may take up to 12 months to heal. If you are sick/ bedridden related to a piercing - that would suggest sepsis which is an urgent medical problem. When in doubt - medical evaluation is the safest recommendation.
