Your WBC is high: A WBC of 18 is high. This could mean bacterial or viral infection or inflammation, or maybe you are taking Prednisone for your lupus. Prednisone or other steroids cause a high wbc. It sounds like you should check in with your rheumatologist as soon as possible. The swelling you describe needs to be examined by a doctor who knows you and your chronic health history.
