Please advise if it's normal to cough up staples from lung surgery 3 yrs later?

Not normal: While this may not represent a major problem, it would not be considered "normal". A follow up with the thoracic surgeon would be advised. Surgical staples used to remove part of a lung could migrate and be coughed up, but evaluation by the surgeon would be best to make sure this doesn't represent a more serious problem.
