Normal?: Vivid dreams and nightmares are possible with hydrocodone and any other centrally acting medication. No, you cannot consider an adverse effect normal. The question is if this adverse effect inteferes with your life and your sleep enough to warrant discontinuation or change to another medication. Not common: but is listed among side effects. Painful conditions can interfere with REM sleep, and it may be the underlying pain, rather than the medications, that is causing this. Talk to your doctor and pharmacist. Or it may be another medication like Chantix, which routinely does this.
