A member asked:

Vaginal swab showed e. coli and dr is putting me on augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate). what does all this mean?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not sure: E coli is a normal flora for the vagina. And i'm not sure that i agree that Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) would be the best antibiotic to treat a gram negative bacteria like e coli. I would ask your doctor what he/she is treating, maybe there's something missing from the story? Metronidazole is most common antibacterial to treat bacterial vaginosis. Probiotics are another choice to treat complex vaginitis.
